• Technology has an enormous impact on the way teachers educate and students learn. In the technological climate of today it is near impossible to be anywhere you aren't exposed to some kind of technology. Every job available will use technology, and the main goal of teachers is to prepare students for the workforce. This is a chief influence, among many others, in the utilization of technology by both students and teachers. The use of technology also allows for a more efficient, available transference of knowledge.
  • The ISTE standards seem to be an effective guideline for the overall approach to teaching. It is important to foster a positive learning environment, and these standards set a pace to achieve that. Being a knowledge constructor is a standard that is especially important to me. The specific aspect of this standard I take the most heed to is being able to identify whether or not the information being provided on the internet is from a credible source. There is a constant flow of information provided on the internet, but some of this information is so heavily biased it becomes completely false. Some information is disseminated with the sole purpose of misleading or even taking advantage of people who aren't wary. An area that I am less confident in my ability is being an innovative designer. My design skills using applications on the computer are far from admirable. I am well-versed in the basics of most design programs, but it would not be accurate to call me an innovator.
  • Digital native as a term for today's youth is a fitting title. I agree with the meaning of the word more so than the application of the term to every person born around the late 90s. Social class and what area of the world a person was born into is what would have the highest impact on being classified as a "digital native". There is an unquestionable effect on children who were born during the emergence of digital technology, but these digital tools are not yet commonplace enough to label everyone born in a certain time frame. Speaking from my own experience with my parents it's apparent that there is some reluctance to trust digital forms of maps or dictionaries, but I know some of their friends who get more excited about a new gadget than I do. The digital world is a new one, but the information being provided is no different than something written on a page. At times when teachers use technology in view of their students there is a reversal of roles, because the students tend to know more about the intricacies of how applications work. People generally have a tendency to overestimate their abilities, but I don't see myself being as helpless as a majority of older people are with technology. The current of technology seems to be getting more complex while staying with the same basic functions, so I am already equipped with the skills needed to adapt to new technology.
