My name is Raul Rivera, and I was born in Tallahassee, Florida. I have limited experience blogging, so this will be something new for me. My favorite sport is basketball, and I have played since I was only about 5 years old. Lately, I have been taking on numerous responsibilities which has been stressful. I love to be in nature, and take pleasure in the little things in life. It feels surreal to be a stranger in the town I grew up in, but I relish the opportunity for a new challenge.

Throughout my schooling career the most high-tech tool in my classrooms was a Smartboard, but as the years went by technology became more commonplace. I used the FLVS system in high school for some of my courses. It allowed me to take better control of my learning environment. Technology in classrooms has always been helpful, but it does open the door for some distractions in my recollection.

Technology has a storied history of  paving the way for more complex societies. I would like to learn about the specific ways technology is being implemented in younger students classes to help them learn more efficiently while maintaining their focus. The passing on of knowledge is one of the most critical aspects to hone, and if technology can have a positive impact on the development of teaching strategies it is crucial to take advantage of it. In my future I may want to teach, so learning what technology helps students remember content most effectively is very important. The current methods being used in classrooms interest me as well, because I want to know how teaching has changed since I was in school.

  1. In 1913, Thomas Edison said "Books will soon be obsolete in the schools. It is possible to teach every branch of human knowledge with the motion picture. Our school system will be completely changed in the next ten years.” But, what do you see in our classroom? We still use books...As you mentioned, we use technologies as one of our teaching strategies...More advanced technologies mean more advanced and rich teaching strategies we can command...:-)
