MS word is a vital tool in any students career. It is the word processor almost every teacher has preferred in the classes I've taken. There are a lot of different ways to use MS word, but the main reason I've used it is for typing papers. I rarely use Word for more creative purposes. In my experience teachers often use Word for typing up assignments. During my time in college the use of Word has dwindled a little, because the assignments are usually given through an online medium. I have also seen teachers use Word for jotting down quick notes, organizing students into groups, and for announcements to the class.
I am not too well versed in using copyrighted material in an educational setting, although I am sure I've been exposed to materials that were reproduced under fair use law. In any class where there has been multiple copies of a text given in a photocopied form the teacher must have abided by the appropriate fair use law. Education does not receive proper funding as it is, so any access that can be granted for free is extremely beneficial to the education process. As a teacher I would take advantage of any materials I could under fair use laws while being wary of the limitations in place. To my knowledge most copyrighted material is available for fair use as long as there is no profit being made by the educator and no large amount of profit being taken away from the producer.
Academic Honesty: First and foremost I would give the spiel about why plagiarism is harmful and how it only disadvantages the person copying the work of someone else. Turnitin and other programs that compare student's work to the internet would also be helpful in combating plagiarism.
Cyberbullying: There would definitely be numerous talks on respecting others through electronic media in my classroom. I would try to develop a trusting relationship with my students so they wouldn't hesitate to notify me of any cyberbullying. In my newsletters I'd ask the parents to look for signs that their child is being harassed online, and ask them to work with the school in handling the situation.
Digital Divide: Everyone should be given an equal opportunity to access education, and in any case where a student wouldn't have the necessary resources to complete class/homework I would make alternative assignments that don't require technology but are still effective. With the help of the school I would also try to make sure the students could access the tools during school hours.
